‘Sky Skins’

Beginning in the mid-1970s, Hurtado’s gaze turned upwards, inverting the downward-facing perspective of her earlier 'I Am' paintings to extend to the sky. When encircled by craggy earth, the opening of sky resembles a stretched animal hide punctuated by floating clouds and feathers.
