This group of paintings maps Hurtado’s continued exploration into how to render light on canvas. Framed by color, each canvas has a bright white center that suggests a concentration of light or heat. Hurtado called these her moth lights, recalling, “I always painted those squares of light hoping that an insect would come and try to get to it.”
