Linear language

In a series created for Hurtado’s 1974 solo exhibition at the Women’s Building in Los Angeles, this group of apparently abstract compositions originate from fragmented lettering. Some of the works have been cut into strips, reconfigured, and stitched back together again, hiding their original words, while others employ thinned paint to create layered patterns.
